7 days Tanzania Migration Special
Experience the power of the legendary wildebeest migration up close in the vast savannas of northern or southern Serengeti, depending on the season (see map). Take in extraordinary vistas of the Great Rift Valley, and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater to spot lions, cheetahs, elephants, and much more.
The Serengeti Park section of this itinerary will change according to the season.
DAY 1 :: Arusha
Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, where you’ll be met by our representative. Transfer to Arusha for lunch or dinner, depending on your arrival time. Meet and greet your guide, who will sit with you for a trip briefing before your departure the following morning.
DAY 2 :: Tarangire National Park
Following an early breakfast, we will drive to Tarangire NP to arrive in time for a short game drive before lunch at one of the park’s picnic sites. The park is famous about its abundance of baobab trees, big herds of elephants and big cats. We will continue with a full afternoon game drive. Tonight we’ll overnight in Karatu.
DAY 3 – 4 :: Serengeti National Park
These two days, we will set out to follow the migration in the park, depending on their location we may head to south or north. With luck, we’ll witness the dramatic river crossings where great herds of wildebeests and zebras eye predators warily as crocodile snouts break the surface of the Mara River. Along the way, we will also have the chance to witness a wide array of wild animals, as the Serengeti undoubtedly is the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world. It’s unequaled for its natural beauty and has the greatest concentration of game anywhere. We will have lunch at one of the picnic lunch spots and overnight in the park.
DAY 5 :: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After breakfast, we drive to the Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact caldera in the world. Along the way, a Maasai community welcomes us into their village on a special visit. Enjoy a rare opportunity to view traditional singing and dancing, visit a school, witness an initiation ritual, and learn about this fascinating culture from the village chief and his wives. We spend tonight on the crater rim.
DAY 6 :: Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, we descend 2,000 feet to the base of the Ngorongoro Crater, where volcanic slopes shelter almost 30,000 animals. Observe the interactions of predator and prey; spot colorful bird life from Marabou Storks to Crowned Cranes; and track elephants, rare black rhinos, cheetahs, and more. We spend a full day game drive here, before we had to back to our overnight accommodation.
DAY 7 :: Ngorongoro Conservation Area to Arusha
After breakfast, we will drive straight back to Arusha and either transfer for your onward flight or to your overnight accommodation.
